An Amsterdam man charged with murdering his cellmate at the Jefferson County Jail is claiming insanity as his defense.  Ronald D. Smith, whose address is listed as Cricket St., Amsterdam, entered a not guilty by reason of insanity plea during an arraignment hearing Feb. 14 in Jefferson County Common Pleas Court. Area fire departments assisted Bergholz VFD battle a blaze on 2nd St. in Bergholz twice this week.Bergholz was called to a fire in an apartment above the Bergholz Diner (Marshall’s Restaurant) Sunday afternoon (Feb. 18) at 2:30 p.m.Fox and Amsterdam departments assisted with that fire from Carroll County.It was reported there were no injuries.The departments were recalled to the site Monday morning for a rekindle of the blaze.No other details
