Scott Shortland, an employee of the Carrollton location of Modern Auto and Truck Parts, is the company’s 2023 employee of the year.
The Carrollton native has been associated with the Carrollton store for 43 years.
The nomination was based on Shortland’s dedication to the Carrollton team as well as his continual contributions to the store as a whole.
“His positive actions, unrivaled insight and willingness to work with others over the past year have allowed us to take another step in taking our team from good to great,” said his nominator Brendon Rogerson, store manager.
“His commitment to Modern Auto has been no different than his longstanding history of commitment to my family and the smalltown business they built and grew. He displays a resilience and a positive attitude, helping set the tone for the rest of the team and leaving an enduring mark on the Carrollton store,” he wrote.
Apart from excelling individually in his role as the business’ lead counterperson, Rogerson said one of his strongest skills is his ability to share his wealth of automotive parts knowledge with others.
“He is not only knowledgeable, but a capable teacher of that knowledge. His willingness to collaborate with others helps contribute to a growth-minded culture for all our partners, and particularly contributes to the development of new team members,” Rogerson wrote.
He noted the Carrollton store has seen and been through a lot in the last 16 months and has still been able to build an outstanding team under a great new ownership throughout it all.
“Without Scott and all his positive qualities, the heights we’ve reached post transition would not be possible in such a short period of time,” he said.
The award was presented during the company’s annual banquet held Jan. 5 in Weirton.
Shortland his wife, Sherri, reside in Carrollton. They have two sons and three grandchildren.
