John David Saffell Sr., 64, of Carrollton, passed away unexpectedly in his home Feb. 16, 2024.
He was born Oct. 24, 1959, to Cecil and Bernice Saffell. He was a hard working, loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. John started hauling heavy machinery at the age of 18. John then proceeded onto diesel mechanic at Allied Trucking until becoming an over-the-road truck driver at A.R.E. Truck Caps for the last 23 years.
John was recently diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer, which he won the battle against and rang the bell January 16, 2024. He was a warrior to all who loved him.
John leaves behind his high school sweetheart, Brenda Saffell, of 46 years; his children, John (Tessa) Saffell Jr. of Scio and Christina (Matthew) Irwin of Alliance; grandchildren, Daniel and Allison; sisters, Connie (Harry) Vint of Amsterdam, Peggy (Ira II) Beard of Scio, Cindy (Elmer) Guy of Canton; and several nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Saffell, twin grandsons, David and Scott Irwin, and a nephew, Ira Beard III.
Funeral services for John will be Friday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Pastor Thomas Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Perrysville Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
