Garner, Carman crowned royalty

Seniors Ashlee Garner and Josh Carman were crowned Carrollton High School Winter Homecoming queen and king last week.
The two senior athletes were crowned by 2023 Queen Molly Brace and King Micah Barkan during a ceremony prior to the Carrollton v West Branch basketball game Feb. 2.
The pair received sashes presented by senior Claire Hostetler and trophies from senior Hillari Baker. The queen’s bouquet was presented by senior Lincoln Mallarnee and donated by Bud’s Flowers.
Garner is the daughter of Angie and Lance Garner. As a member of the high school golf team, Garner is a three-time Eastern Buckeye Conference first team selection and a four-year member of the team. She is also a National Honor Society and Academic Hall of Fame inductee.

Following graduation, she would like to attend college to continue her golf career and major in education.
Carman is the son of Mike and Angie Carman. The teen is a four-year member of the wrestling team where he is a three-time state placer and served as a team captain his junior and senior year. He is also a three-time All-Ohio Reno World champion, All American, two-time Top Gun champion, three-time sectional champion, district champion, and a First Team Eastern Buckeye selection and wrestler of the year as a junior. He is also a four-year member of the Warrior football team and served as a team captain his senior year. His academic achievements include Academic Hall of Fame and a three-year scholar athlete.
Following graduation, he plans to continue his academic and athletic career at West Liberty University.
Garner and Carman reigned over the annual homecoming dance, held Feb. 3 in the high school.
Senior attendants
MALEYNA HAVENS, daughter of Josh and Casey Havens. Maleyna is a four-year member of the high school softball team, volleyball team and basketball team and the only member of the 2024 graduating class who is a tri-athlete, earning nine varsity letters.
As a member of the volleyball team, the senior earned First Team and Second Team EBC honors and was a Division 5 second team selection. She was also a member of the 2023 sectional girls basketball team.
Academically, she is a member of National Honor Society and Academic Hall of Fame.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Arizona State University and become an Ohio State game warden.
NICHOLAS LAWRENCE, son of the late Seth Lawrence and Camy Martinez. Nick moved to Carrollton this past summer from Texas where he was a member of student council at the high school he attended. He is a two-year wrestler and a member of high school football teams for three years, as well as being a track and field athlete for four years. Academically, he is an honor roll student, scholar athlete and member of National Honor Society. He is also an office aide in the high school.
Following graduation, Lawrence plans to join the United States Air Force as a mechanic.
Junior attendants
JAZMINE KUTTIE, daughter of Eric Kuttie. She is a three-year varsity cheerleader and a two year member of the volleyball and track teams. She is also a member of the Pep Club and Academic Hall of Fame along with being a two-year member of Student Council. She is enrolled in the College Credit Plus program.
BROCK OBERLIN, son of Kyle and Deborah Oberlin. He is a three-year member of the bowling team and a two-year member of the track and football teams. He was a member of the inaugural Carrollton High School boys volleyball team last spring and belongs to the CHS Club. The teen has been a Toys for Tots volunteer for the past 13 years and is a member of Academic Hall of Fame.
Sophomore attendants
MADDI POWER, daughter of Scott and Jackie Power. She is a member of the high school volleyball team, an honor roll student and enrolled in the College Credit Plus program.
TANNER JOHNSTON, son of Marcus and Alesha Johnston. He is a one-year member of the football team, Academic Hall of Fame and on the honor roll.
Freshman attendants
ABIGAIL MATOSZKIA, daughter of Alfred and Jamie Matoszkia. The teenager is a member of the CHS Club, French Club and an honor roll student.
VICTOR ZACAPALA-DIAZ, son of Carolyn and Carlos Zacapala-Diaz. He is a cast member of the performing arts program, where he has portrayed the donkey in the production of Shrek and will perform as the Duke of Weselton in the upcoming musical, Frozen. The teenager is a member of the CHS Warrior band and men’s ensemble.
