Study time pays off for sixth grader; crowned spelling bee champion

Alex Deaton correctly spelled two words that could easily be used in the same sentence – athlete and bruise – to win the 2020 Carrollton Exempted Village School District Spelling Bee.  Deaton correctly spelled “athlete”, which runner-up Jacelyn Griffith misspelled, and then spelled “bruise” correctly to be become the winner.  It was the first spelling bee for the sixth-grade student, who advances to the Regional Spelling Bee March 7 at

Lady Warriors edge Lions by one pin; advance to state tournament

Carrollton edged out Minerva by one pin to grab the second qualifying spot for the Division II girls state bowling tournament this weekend at Wayne’s Webb in Columbus. Claymont won the team event with 3,396 points to earn the first qualifying spot during action at Sunrise Bowling Center in Zanesville Feb. 21.
