CHS net team tops Minerva on senior night

The Carrollton Warriors volleyball team hosted the Minerva Lions for a senior night game Sept. 28.
The Lady Warriors owned the night, winning in four sets 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16.
Carrollton jumped out to an early lead at 6-3, stretching the lead to 17-11 before the Lions mounted a comeback, tying the score at 18. The game would be tied three more times before Minerva pulled away for the 25-22 win.
The second set found the Warriors jumping out to an 8-3 lead only to see the Lions fight back to within one at 9-8. Senior Maleyna Havens wasn’t having it on senior night. Havens scored three straight kills and a blocked shot to stretch the Carrollton lead to 14-9. Later in the set, she had two more kills, helping the Warriors expand the lead to 20-13 on the way to a 25-17 set win.
Minerva jumped out early in set three with a 6-2 lead, but Carrollton battled back to tie the score at nine. The Warriors would stretch their lead to 19-12 only to see the Lady Lions battle back to within 23-20 before the Warriors pulled out the set win 25-21.
The Lions took an early 3-1 lead in the fourth set. The Warriors tied the contest at 8-8 only to see the Lions go up 15-11. The Warriors would catch the Lions at 16-16 then score nine of the next 10 points for the 25-17 win.
Braelynn Roudebush led the Warriors with 18 points and five aces. Havens had 14 kills as Emma Shafer contributed 28 assists and teammate Phoebe Moyers finished with 14 digs.
For Minerva, Gabby Romano had eight points and 14 kills. Sierra Cress had 17 digs and eight kills. Ayla Shellenbarger had 14 digs and 17 assists.
The Warriors finish out the Eastern Buckeye Season at 5-5. The overall mark sits at 7-13.
