Athletes from Carrollton, Malvern and East Canton won the top awards at the 9th annual Larry Cogan Invitational held April 25 at Community Field.

Temperatures in the 70-degree range with sunshine set the stage for numerous runners to set personal best performances.

The annual event, named for longtime Carrollton Coach Larry Cogan, also recognizes the accomplishments of Carrollton’s four track state champions: Cole Lovett, Maddie Dunlap, Jacob Baker and Alivia Bentley.

Ricky Sibila, II, a junior at Carrollton, won the Cole Lovett award for the top male runner award for winning the boys 1,600M  and 3,200M, setting personal best (PB) records in both events. His time in the 1,600, 4:31.45 was just shy of four seconds faster than second place Grasyn Rettig of Minerva, who also set personal best mark of 4:35.19. Third and fourth place finishers, Mason Steele and Ryan Cassidy of Minerva, also set personal best marks.  Sibila’s time of 10:09.47 in the 3,200M was also a new personal best.

Malvern thrower Parker Bowe won the Olivia Bentley award for the best thrower. Bowe, a freshman, won the shot put with a throw of 50-feet, 3-inches and the discus with a distance of 158-feet, 5-inches.

East Canton runner Audrey Wade won the Maddie Dunlap award for the top female runner. The senior outpaced the field in the 1,600M run to win in a time of 5:15.81 and was second in the 800 with a time of 2:25.

“What a great night for a track meet!! Our Warriors really showed up and had some great PRs and competed! Our relays really ran well and was the best we looked all year. It’s exciting to see all the rookies and young bucks gaining confidence and really coming on at the right time as the postseason approaches,” said Carrollton Coach Mike Aukerman. “Thank you to all the volunteers that helped run such a smooth and fun meet. It was a great event to honor Larry Cogan and our four state champions in Maddie, Cole, Jacob and Alivia.”
