Carrollton opened girls sectional soccer tournament play with a 2-1 victory over the New Philadelphia Quakers at a wet and rainy Community Field Oct. 14.

Gracy Martin scored first for New Philadelphia off a penalty kick with 15 minutes left in the first half. Just one minute later, the Warriors Isabella Nuzzolillo found the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1. Chelsea Pesta had the assist.

The score remained tied until Pesta, with an assist by Ariona Rutledge, scored with three minutes left in the game.

Carrollton had 19 shots on goal to New Philadelphia’s 11. Warrior goalie Gianna James had nine saves. Quaker goalie Chloe Wing had 11 saves.

The Warriors are scheduled to travel to St. Clairsville this Tuesday (Oct .17) for the sectional title game against the Red Devils.
