Participants in the 2022 Foster Care Awareness 5K and Prayer Walk dodged raindrops to raise over $500 to assist foster families in Carroll County.

The date is set for the second annual Foster Care Awareness 5K Walk and Prayer Walk.
Organizers are inviting the public to participate in the event May 7 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds. Registration begins at 2 p.m., welcome at 2:30 p.m. and the 5K race begins at 3 p.m. Registration is by donation the day of the event, which will be held rain or shine.
A pair of local foster/adoptive mothers in Carroll County are organizing the event in hopes of spreading awareness about the community can serve foster children, their birth families, foster families, kinship families and adoptive families in the community.
Information will be available on how to become foster parents during the event as well. All proceeds benefit children and families in Carroll County directly impacted by foster care. For information, email [email protected].
Smith’s Sweet Treats ice cream truck will be on site, selling treats for half price. Chips and drinks will be available for purchase. There will also be free face painting, popcorn and outdoor games.
The 2022 event raised $565 in spite of a nearly steady rain.
Organizer Julie Halfhill, who, with her husband, Seth, have been adoptive parents for six years and foster parents for four years, feel they are just doing their share.
“We are just two flawed humans trying to follow God’s lead and trusting Him to be faithful in hard moments,” she said.”Not everyone is called to foster or adopt, but everyone is called to do something.”
