Marianne and Jim Fisher, co-owners of the Carrollton Downtown Alley bring history and interesting antiquities to downtown Carrollton.

“Jim and I have collected for our 42 years of married life,” said Marianne Fisher. “It was my idea and dream to always open an antique and collectibles shop.”

Marianne retired from the Amsterdam post office in 2020 after 23 years of service.

“I like to do crafts and most antique stores do not allow crafts in their shops,” said Fisher. Fisher makes wreaths out of things like teapots and sells them at the store as well as other crafts and items that could be turned into crafts.

She had a booth at Station Antiques for about a year then the current location of Carrollton Downtown Alley came up for sale and she decided give opening a store a chance. Jim browses online auctions and visits estate sales to get interesting items. He also has a collection of local old historical books and atlases from Carroll County that he will show visitors if he is in the shop. These are not for sale but have a lot of information.

“We are just really glad to see so many new businesses pop up in town to revive the downtown Carrollton area,” said Fisher.

The shop has a huge selection of glassware, music CDs, DVDs, records, dolls, furniture, lamps, post cards, jewelry, pictures, statues, teacups and several odds and ends.

“It is just Jim and I running the store for now,” said Fisher. “In the new year we possibly might start selling stuff online but are not sure yet.”

The store hours are open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and it will be closed Thursday and Sunday. It is located at 70 North Lisbon St., Carrollton. There is a Facebook page for Carrollton Downtown Alley.

“What I enjoy the most since opening the shop is talking and interacting with people and learning from the past,” said Marianne.
