Crash victim flown by medical helicopter to Canton Hospital following SR 43 crash
A Mingo Junction man was flown by medical helicopter to a Canton hospital following a two-vehicle crash in Lee Twp. Oct. 8.
According to a media release issued by the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, James D. McClain, 59 of Mingo Junction, was evaluated at the crash scene by personnel with Emergency Medical Transport and was transported to the intersection of SRs 43 and 9 by ambulance. Carrollton Village and Loudon Twp. firefighters set up a landing zone there for a Stat Medivac helicopter, which transported McClain to Aultman Hospital in Canton.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:08 p.m. on SR 43 north of Carry Rd.
According to the release, McClain was driving a black 2014 Hyundai Sonata which went left of center while traveling southbound on SR 43. A gray 2021 Ford F-250 was traveling northbound on SR 43. McClain overcorrected the Hyundai, and the vehicle was struck by the Ford truck.
The driver of the F-250, Tyler A. Milhoan, 25, of East Liverpool, sustained minor injuries. A passenger in the F-250, Eli S. Byler, 25, of Salineville, was not injured.
Troopers said all vehicle occupants were wearing safety belts.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Carrollton Village Fire Department, Loudon Twp. Fire Department, EMT and personnel with the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under the investigation.
