Russell, Wood win bowling tournament titles

Carrollton crowned an individual champion, placed two bowlers on the All-Tournament Team and both teams finished runners-up in the Tuscarawas County Classic Bowling Tournament Dec. 7.
Carrollton junior Kaylee Russell won the girls individual title with a 581 score. Teammate and senior Hailee Ulman rolled a 574 to place second.
On the boys side, senior Bryce Taylor earned All-Tournament Team honors with by laying down a 635 score to place fifth.
The Carrollton girls sat in the top position after the qualifying round with a 3,205 score and placed second in best of five Baker games match play behind River View.
The boys team sat in second after the qualification round behind Dover with a 3,795 count and placed second behind the Tornadoes after the Baker games.
MINERVA
The boys team struggled on the Sectional Pattern at AMF/HOF Lanes during the Muskingum University Invitational Dec. 7 and placed 19th with a 2,743 score. Kendrick Keister was the top performer with games of 193, 179,183, for a 555 series.
The Lady Lions made the top eight cut and advanced to match play where they lost to Fairport Harbor and placed seventh with a combined individual and Baker score of 2,555.
Junior Bailey Wood won the girls individual title with games of 157, 184, 289 for a 630 series. Wood shot 10 strikes and then had a solid 10-pin pickup for the 289 score.
CARROLLTON v
MINERVA
In the first head-to-head meeting of the season for the two traditionally strong bowling programs, the Lion girls and Carrollton boys prevailed.
The Warrior boys, bowling on their home lanes at Atwood, built on a strong performance in the individual games with a win in the Baker. Coach Joe Phillis’ squad led 1,820-1,680 after the individual games and posted a 568-494 Baker Rotation win.
Khalen Green rolled a 253 his first game for the high individual score and added a 207 in the second game for a 460 series. Jace Eckinger laid down games of 182 and 226 for a 408 series. Landon James paced Minerva with games of 200 and 143 for a 343 series. Owen Frazier contributed games of 161 and 174 for a 335 series.
The Lion girls built a 284 pin lead in the individual games (1,970-1,686) and won the Baker games 505-450 for a 2,475-2,136 victory.
Jadynn Thompson topped all bowlers with games of 266 and 225 for a 491 series. Teammate Kayla Henderhan contributed games of 203 and 225 for a 428 series.
Russell’s scores of 172 and 222 for a 396 series topped Carrollton.
Minvera v Marlington
Both Minerva teams picked up wins over Marlington Dec. 11 at Minerva Bowl.
Thompson rolled a 392 series (182,, 210) as the Lions picked up a 2,145-1,870 Eastern Buckeye Conference win over the Dukes.
Hawk rolled games of 213 and 217 for a 430 series to lead the boys to the 2,483-2,025 win. Keister added a 379 series (212, 167).
CONOTTON VALLEY
Both Rocket teams picked up wins over Sandy Valley Dec. 9 at the Rocket Center.
The girls team, led by Lilly Booth 392 series (188, 203) scored a 2,013-1,594 win over the Cards. Mylie Galigher laid down games of 139 and 201 for a 340 series. The girls held a 1,589-1,245 advantage after the individual games and added a 424-349 Baker win to the total.
Alana Maddox paced Sandy Valley with games of 158 and 143 for a 301 series.
Led by Michael Lorello’s 429 series (258, 171), the Rocket boys team posted a 2,091-1,783 victory. Andrew Herron scored a 331 series (162, 169) for the winners. Landon Boyer rolled games of 177 and 149 for a 326 for the Cardinals.
Conotton v
East Canton
The Rockets split matches with East Canton Dec. 10 at Eastbury Lanes.
Galigher laid down games of 213 and 233 for a 446 series to lead the girls team to a 2,072- 1,888 victory. Booth contributed a 352 series (169, 183).
Lorello’s 418 series (230-188) led the Conotton boys team, which fell short in the match 2,395-2,172. Andrew Herron rolled games of 202 and 150 for a 352 series. East Canton won the individual games score 1,907-1,639 with the Baker games going to the Rockets 533-488.
Conotton v Tuscarawas Central Catholic (TCC)
Galigher rolled the high game of 244 and added a 226 for a 470 series to lead the Lady Rockets to a 2,025-1,674 win over TCC at Wabash Lanes Dec. 12. Booth added a 425 series with games of 192 and 233.
Thirty-nine pins separated TCC and the Rocket boys team after the individual games of the match, 1,682-1,643. TCC added a cushion of 15 pins in the Baker games (569-555) for a 2,251-2,198 win. Lorello’s second game of 278 was the high individual score and his series total of 492 was also tops for the match.
