Powers, Rinkes cap off high school careerswith appearances in North-South All-Star games

Two area basketball players participated in the recent Ohio High School Coaches Association North-South All-Star Games.
Maddie Powers, a senior at Malvern, represented the Hornets and Jaxon Rinkes a senior at Carrollton, represented the Warriors.
Powers represented the North Team, scoring six points and collecting four rebounds. The North dropped an exciting game to the South by a score of 71-70. As part of the experience, Powers participated in a skills competition and enjoyed a team-bonding activity at Top Golf. The game was played April 28 at Olentangy Liberty High School.
The Hornet forward, averaged an area-high 25.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals for the Hornets (14-9). She was the District 5 Player of the Year and earned first-team All-Ohio. The Malone University recruit finished as Malvern’s third-leading career scorer with 1,617 points.
Rinkes is the first player in the history of Carrollton basketball to play in the North-South All-Star game. The Warrior guard scored six points and dished out three assists in the contest, which the North team lost 109-99. The game was played April 29 at Olentangy Liberty High School.
Rinkes was the Eastern Buckeye Conference and East District player of the year. He averaged 15.2 points per game, 5.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game during the 2022 season. He shot 60.4 percent from the field and 74.3 percent from the foul line.
