Oehlstrom, Ball lead area contingent of All-Ohio football selections

Two area high school football players earned All-Ohio first team honors when the teams were announced earlier this week by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

Carrollton running back Chase Oehlstrom was a Division IV and Malvern defensive back Noah Ball was a Division VII winner.

Oehlstrom, a junior, carried gained 2,231 yards on 357 carries for an average of 6.2 yards per carry and scored 21 touchdowns.

Ball, a senior, broke the school record this year for most interceptions in a season with nine. The previous record was set in 2008 by Tyler Tucci with seven. Ball’s nine interceptions were included in the record breaking most team interceptions in a season with 23. The previous record was set in 2013 when the team recorded 17 interceptions. Ball had 41 receptions for 559 yards and six touchdowns and averaged 38.5 yards a punt. He recorded 24 tackles and one defensive touchdown.

Following are selections of athletes from Carrollton, Malvern, Minerva, Sandy Valley and Southern Local and Edison as well as Eastern Buckeye Conference teams West Branch, Salem and Canton South.

Division IV

First team

Quarterback: Dru Shields, West Branch, 6-4, 180 lb. junior.

Wide receiver/tight end: Nick Wilson, West Branch, 6-1, 162 lb. senior.

Offensive line: Greg Rockwell West Branch, 6-1, 225 lb. senior.

Linebacker: Steven Marra, West Branch, 6-2, 220 lb. senior.

Second team

Quarterback: Jackson Johnson, Salem, 6-0, 176 lb. senior; Poochie Snyder, Canton South, 6-0, 165 lb. sophomore.

Wide receiver/tight end: Blaize Exline, Salem, 5-11, 160 lb. senior.

Defensive lineman: Mitchell Coffee, Beloit West Branch, 6-2, 235 lb. junior.

Third team

Quarterback: Austin Colletti, Carrollton, 6-0, 170 lb. senior.

Honorable mention

Defensive line: Ben Zinda, Carrollton, 5-10, 205 lb. junior.

Linebacker: Domanick Speelman, Carrollton, 5-9, 160 lb. senior.

Defensive back: Erik Murray, Minerva, 5-10, 185 lb. senior.

Running back: Mason Tucci, Sandy Valley, 5-10, 160 lb. senior.

Second Team

Offensive line: Wyatt Moyer, Sandy Valley, 5-10, 225 lb. senior.

Kicker: Kanyon McCort, Magnolia Sandy Valley, 6-0, 180 lb. junior.
