Lady Lions top field at Quaker Challenge

Veteran bowlers Jadynn Thompson and Shelby Worrell snared the top two places in the Quaker Challenge and led the Minerva Lions to first place in the tournament, held Dec. 16 at Boulevard Lanes in Dover. 

Thompson, a junior, rolled a 619 three-game series (213, 175, 237) and Worrell, a senior, bowled a 619 (205, 225, 189). 

Others scoring for the Lions were Izabelle Genet 516(160, 165, 191), Anna Leach 497 (187, 169, 141) and Kayla Henderhan 462 (141, 155, 166) for a 2,719 sub total. The team added a 931 six-game Baker for a total score of 2,719.

On the boys side, the Lions tallied a 2,538 score in the individual games and added a 960 in the Baker game for a team score of 3,318.

Carrollton

Jaden Johnston’s 251 game and 465 series were both high scores for a Dec. 18 match at Carrollton Lanes between the Carrollton Warriors and Canton South Wildcats. 

Noah Hutson added a 437 series (231, 206) and Jace Eckinger a 410 (206, 204) as the Warriors earned a 2,670-2,288 win in Stark County Bowling Conference action. With the win the Warriors improved to 5-0 in league action and are 6-1 overall. 

The winners built a 1,995-1,676 lead after the individual games and won the Baker 675-612.

Seventy-seven pins separated the top five bowlers on the Warrior girls team in a 2,093-1,200 win. Abby Natcher rolled the high game of 207 and Hailee Ulman the high series of 380 (174, 206). Natcher added a 107 in the second game for a 377 series. Kaylee Russell contributed a 372 (189, 183) while Zoey Elliott laid down a 337 (160, 177) and Mackenzie Rummell rounded out the scoring with a 303 (172, 131).

Sandy Valley

Indian Valley handed the Sandy Valley Cardinals boys team its second loss of the season Dec. 18 at Strike Zone 2,611-2,313.

The Braves took a 224-pin lead after the individual games won the Baker 559-485. The guest’s Brentin Irwin laid down the high series (422) while teammate Daniel Grewell rolled the high game of 223. The Cardinals fell to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Inter Valley Conference (IVC).

Addison Selby’s 341 series (155, 186) led the girls team to a 1,798-1,547 win over Indian Valley. The hosts built a 1,379-1,216 lead in the individual games and won the Baker 419-331. With the win, the Cards improved to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the IVC. 

Conotton Valley

Both Rocket teams posted wins over Newcomerstown Dec. 18 at Cy Young Lanes. The boys team slipped past the host Trojans 2,127-1,969 on the strength of a 1,711-1,589 lead after the individual games and a 416-390 win in the Baker rotation.

The Trojan’s Jaxson Mayo rolled the high game (244) and the high series (479). Bobby Brennan topped scoring for the Rockets with a 449 series (214, 235). Joe Warner laid down a 357 series (188, 169) and Brody Brown a 293 (159,134) while Logan Slutz and Drew Herron both contributed scores of 293.

Mylie Galigher’s 423 series topped the scoring in the girls match. She laid down the high game of 224 and added a 199 in the first game as the girls building a 1,620-1,034 lead heading into the Baker rotation, where they edged the hosts 430-273.
