Four Warriors in contention for district wrestling titles

Kail Snair picked up his 100th pin at the district tournament.

Four Carrollton Warriors will continue their quest for a district wrestling championship tomorrow at Gallia Academy.

Landon Jenkins (106 lbs.) Kail Snair (113), Levi Pidgeon (126) and Josh Carman (138) all won their first two matches of the Division II district tournament earlier tonight. They will wrestle in the semifinal round when wrestling resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Jenkins won both of his matches by pin(19 seconds and 2:35), Snair picked up the 100th pin of his high school career in the first round (:39) and posted a 9-2 decision in the quarterfinals. Pidgeon won by pin (1:26) in the first round and by 8-4 decision in the second and Carman by pin (1:22) and a 16-1 technical fall.

Five other Warriors, John Childs (120), Jayden Sutton (144), Jamasen Powell (165), Owen Spilker (215) and Aidan Spilker (HWT) all lost first round matches and dropped to the consolation bracket where they won the next match and remain in contention for a state championship berth.

The top four placers in each weight class advance to the state tournament next weekend in Columbus.

Dalton Sweeney (157), Gavin Slutz (175) and Dalton Naylor (190) were eliminated from competition.

Steubenville sits atop the leader board with 48 points, followed by Indian Valley 46, Carrollton 45.5, New Philadelphia 43.5 and Beaver Local 40.
