Area athletes set to compete at state track meet this week

Malvern, Minerva and Sandy Valley all qualified athletes for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state championships this week at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.

The event was moved from Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University for one year due to construction at the stadium

Sandy Valley senior Lexi Tucci won both the high jump (5-feet, 4-inches) and the long jump (18-03.50) at the Division III regionals held in Heath last weekend. She will compete Thursday, May 30, at 3 p.m. in the high jump and at 6 p.m. in the long jump

Malvern freshman Parker Bowe also secured two state berths by placing second in the discus (164-09) and third in the shot put (54-04.75). He competes Thursday at 3 p.m. in the discus and at 6 p.m. in the shot put.

Cardinal Alaina Heller earned a spot in the 200M in Dayton by placing fourth at regionals. runs Thursday at 7:10 p.m.

Division II

Minerva distance runners Katie Ison and Gabby Lupshu placed second and third respectively in the 3200M run to clinch state berths. Ison crossed the line second and Lupshu third. The pair will run Saturday, June 1, at 11:55 a.m.

The Lions will also send the girls 4×800 relay team to Dayton after the foursome placed fourth at regional competition at Muskingum College last weekend. The Lions will compete Friday, May 31, at 9 a.m.

Carrollton’s regional qualifiers, the girls 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams and Kylie Ujcich  and Ricky Sibila (both 3200M) fell short of qualifying for the state’s top meet.
