New Councilman Justin Wadsworth was sworn onto Malvern Council at the Jan. 3 meeting and standing rules of council were approved.
Mayor Bob DeLong and Councilman Jan Wackerly were also sworn after re-election by Solicitor Chad Murdock. Council welcomed Wadsworth as its newest member at the end of the meeting.
Councilwoman Barb Burgess was once again nominated and voted council president.
In an unrelated matter, Fiscal Officer Ashley Neading informed council that the year 2023 ended with a strong fund balance of $1,355,873.2. This is up approximately $250,000 from last year’s end of the year close.
“We controlled costs well, while still making improvements,” said Neading. “We exceeded budget expectations for 2023 and financially we had a solid year for 2023. We are ahead of what was projected and this year I am going to continue to be conservative with budget estimates.”
Neading reported end of the year items are done such as year and tax reports for state and fed are uploaded; W2’s are done, end of the year Regional Income Tax Agency submissions are complete as well as more annual items.
