Malvern continues dominance on court, tops East Canton 96-49

Malvern was just shy of doubling up the final score when they traveled to East Canton Feb. 6 to face their Inter Valley Conference North Division foe, also known as the Hornets. Malvern returned home with a 96-49 win.

Malvern junior Michael Minor recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four others reached double figures, led by senior Derk Hutchison with 23. Junior Johnny Browning contributed 18 points, including a five-for-five performance at the foul line. Junior Connor Lefevre chipped in 17 and junior Noah Ball added 10 markers.

Caleb Schilling and Luke Riley shared scoring honors for East Canton with 18 points apiece. Schilling also grabbed five of his team’s 27 rebounds. Malvern led the battle on the boards with 42 rebounds.

Malvern dominated the contest from the outset, leading 34-15 after one quarter, 54-22 at halftime and 75-32 heading into the final period.

The visitors shot 58 percent from the field (36-62) and the foul line (15-26) compared to 32 percent from the field (19-59) and 59 percent from the charity stripe (10-17) for the hosts.

Malvern improved to 15-2 overall with the win and East Canton dropped to 4-8.
