Knife incident leads to grand jury indictment for Canton man

A Canton man was indicted on several felony charges relating to an incident that occurred Dec. 30 in Carrollton. 

JOSHUA A. YOHO, 31, of Canton was indicted on two counts of Aggravated Burglary, first-degree felonies, Burglary, a second-degree felony; Felonious Assault, a second-degree felony; Tampering with Evidence, a third-degree felony; and Disrupting Public Services, a fourth-degree felony. 

Yoho is accused of forcing his way into the Carrollton residence of a former girlfriend and then chased another male from the residence with a knife. During an altercation outside the residence, Yoho attempted to stab the male, who received several cuts and bruises. Yoho fled on foot as Carrollton Police officers arrived and after a brief foot chase, was apprehended and the knife was discovered discarded in a dumpster. Yoho remains in the Carroll County jail on a $250,000 bond.

Prosecuting Attorney Steven D. Barnett said the grand jury heard testimony from 11 witnesses involving nine cases, all of which were returned as indictments.

Other indictments included:

LUKE A. MAGEE, 37, whose last address known was 6021 Brocade Rd. SE, Carrollton, Burglary and Grand Theft. Barnett said Magee is accused of entering the Germano Rd. home of a relative Dec. 13 where he stole a handgun.

JAKE R. WILSON, 31, of 23492 Ridge Rd., East Rochester, Possession of Cocaine and Drug Paraphernalia Offenses. It is alleged that, on Nov. 7, 2023, Minerva Police officers found cocaine and a cut straw used to administer cocaine hidden in a cigarette pack in Wilson’s vehicle after he was stopped for a traffic offense.

TODD A. WEEKLY, 52, of 321 North Canton St., Malvern, Aggravated Possession of Drugs. According to Barnett, Weekly is charged with possessing approximately 3.4 grams of a methamphetamine in his vehicle during a traffic stop Oct. 24, 2023, on SR 183 near Malvern.

WILLIAM LEE BISSETT, 37, of Canton, Aggravated Possession of Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia Offenses. Bissett is charged with possessing approximately a half a gram of methamphetamine that was found in his vehicle following a traffic stop Dec. 16. Glass pipes used to smoke methamphetamine were also found in the vehicle.

THOMAS J. WILLIAMS, 33, of 453 Canton Rd. NW, Carrollton,Trespass in a Habitation When a Person is Present or Likely to be Present. On Dec. 19, 2023, Williams entered a home through a window of a Steubenville Rd. residence while no one was home.

MARY E. SHOWMAN, 35, of 22970 U.S. Route 30, Lot #14, Minerva, Aggravated Possession of Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia Offenses. On Sept. 9, 2023, Showman alledgedly possessed approximately 5.5 grams of methamphetamine found in her vehicle after a traffic stop. Scales used to weigh narcotics was also discovered in her vehicle.

NATHAN T. HAWKINS, 35, of 655 Township Road 276, Bergholz, Aggravated Possession of Drugs.

It is alleged that, on Sept. 16, 2023, methamphetamine was found on Hawkins after he was arrested on an outstanding warrant at a Germano Rd. residence.

TRISTAN C. SMITH, 26, of 529 Murray Avenue, Minerva, Aggravated Arson. It is alleged that on Dec. 4, 2023, Smith, poured gasoline in the yard in an attempt to burn a residence down of a woman he was previously involved with in a relationship. The home was not damaged. Smith was previously indicted in December for domestic violence involving the woman and a separate incident at the same residence also on Dec. 4, 2023.

According to Barnett, arraignments are scheduled Jan. 18 at 8:15 a.m. before Common Pleas Judge Michael V. Repella, II.
