The Carroll County Park District’s 4th annual Chili Cook-off is planned Oct. 23 from 12 -5 p.m.

Guests are welcome to unlimited chili by donation and will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. Votes will determine which cook takes home the coveted “golden ladle.”

Along with chili, two breweries will be onsite, Hoodletown Brewing Co. of Dover and Lockport Brewery of Bolivar.

The cook-off will take place at The Barn at Carroll Community Park and will live stream The Ohio State Buckeyes when they take on Indiana. There will also be corn hole, music and raffles.

Categories are traditional red chili, homestyle chili and other.

Traditional red chili is any kind of meat or combination of meats cooked in red chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients. Homestyle chili is any kind of meat or combination of meat cooked with beans, chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients. Anything goes for the “other” category, white chili, vegetarian, vegan, etc.

The general public will vote on the “People’s Choice” winner. The pro division will be judged by jurors.

Contestants must prepare a minimum of one gallon (two gallon is appreciated) for your category. Extension cords, serving cups/bowls and picnic tables are provided. Each entry should have a name (be creative but no personal names) and a list of all ingredients must be clearly printed or typed to help avoid allergic reactions. Heat level must be listed as mild, warm or hot. No home canned products may be used.

Chili must arrive between 11 a.m. and noon.  Cost to enter is $10 for people’s choice or $20 for pro division.
