Miller’s free throw sparks Warriors win

Carrollton junior Derick Miller (22) scored 24 points in a come-from-behind win at Alliance Jan. 12.

Carrollton bounced back from a three-game losing streak with a 58-56 win in Harry Fails Gymnasium at Alliance Jan. 12 in boys basketball action.

The visiting Warriors trailed 32-30 at halftime and allowed the hosts to build a 49-42 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Sparked by 5-11 junior Darick Miller’s free throw and put back, the Warriors went on a 14-2 run that erased a nine-point deficit. Senior guard Talen Timberlake and sophomore guard Brock Smith closed out the game with field goals to clinch the victory.

The win was the first in Eastern Buckeye Conference (EBC) play for the Warriors against three losses. Last season the Warriors finished 9-3 in conference play.

Miller finished the game with 24 points, followed by Timberlake with 17.  The duo combined for 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Senior Gage Poole and Smith added six points each and sophomore Jaxon Rinkes contributed five. Poole also had three assists.
