Brown Local Schools and Aultman Health will celebrate a partnership to bring a new school-based health center to the district with a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 22 at 9 a.m.

The ceremony will be held at the school, located at 3242 Coral Rd. NW, Malvern.

The Malvern Community Learning and Wellness Center is funded by a $3,514,100 grant, which is part of Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s ongoing investment in Ohio’s Appalachia communities.

In partners will build a 6,880-square-foot Community Learning and Wellness Center to provide comprehensive services, including access to healthcare, mental health, addiction and recovery services, CARE Team services, and physical fitness opportunities for staff and community members. The wellness center will operate on weekdays, year-round. Students will be prioritized, but the center will be able to serve staff while allowing access to the broader community.

The Malvern Community Learning and Wellness Center will include a school-operated preschool classroom to increase high-quality early learning services to the Malvern community. The project will also include a leadership and career lab to serve the school district and the community for leadership and workforce development.

FMD Architects, located in Fairlawn, is the architect and Beaver Constructors is the construction manager.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to build a wellness center to benefit our students, staff, and community,” said Brown Local Superintendent Mark Scott. “This initiative will reinforce our continued commitment to focusing on the whole child. We will be able to expand the support available to students and staff, including mental health services, CARE Team support, healthcare and wellness. This will be an opportunity to build on our excellent partnerships with Aultman, Springvale Behavioral Health, Pathway Caring for Children, United Way CARE Teams, and the ADAMHS Board of Tuscarawas and Carroll County. We will also be able to offer a fitness area all community members can access to help focus on living a healthy and balanced lifestyle.”
