Storms leave trail of destruction

Severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area Aug. 27 left behind a path of destruction.

Carroll County Emergency Management Agency Director Tom Cottis said the National Weather Service determined straight winds passed through the northern end of the county, causing damage to trees and powerlines.

Winds were estimated to reaching 60 miles per hour, according to Cottis, who noted the weather station along SR 183 was not in operation, so exact wind speeds could not be measured.

Trees and power lines were down in Rose, Augusta and Brown townships in Carroll County as well as in the village of Minerva. Some roads remained closed until the damage was cleaned up over the weekend.
