Kent A. Thompson, DVM, 62

Kent A. Thompson, DVM, passed away in his home on Friday, April 12, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kent was born in Canton, Ohio on April 9, 1962, to the late Jess Thompson and Pauline Farmer. He was a 1980 graduate of Carrollton High School. Kent received his Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in 1989. Together he and his wife, Robyn, opened Thompson Animal Hospital in Canton South, which continues today as a legacy to their hard work and compassionate caring for all animals. He was a past Master of the Carrollton Masonic Lodge No. 1400, was a member of the Kiwanis/Canton South Men’s Club, and he was active in the Cat Fanciers Association. Kent was inducted into the Carrollton Alumni Hall of Fame in 2015. He was also an active member of Peace Lutheran Church – serving as treasurer; serving on the church council; and providing music, both choral and bells.

Kent’s greatest gift was being able to have a career he truly loved working with animals and his wife Robyn. He was an avid and passionate Ohio State Fan and enjoyed walking in his spare time. His family was always his first priority and he attended as many of his five children’s activities (sports, arts, academics, etc.) as possible. Kent was a loving and caring father, husband, and brother.

Kent is preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 34 years Robyn (Carter) Thompson; his daughters Lucy, Caroline, Emily (fiancé Charlie Parsons), Erin (fiancé Andrew Knox): son Nathan; sisters Sherry (Jeff) Adams and Joette (Delbert) Rinkes.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kreighbaum Sanders Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 20, at 11a.m., at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 3828 Cleveland Ave SW, Canton, Ohio, 44707, with Rev. Philip Kunder officiating. Friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral at the church at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Your presence and support are deeply appreciated during this time of remembrance. Interment will follow at Melscheimer Cemetery.

While floral tributes in memory of Kent are truly appreciated, we believe that honoring Doctor Kent’s love for animals by donating to a charity of your choice supporting them would be a truly meaningful tribute to his lasting legacy.

Arrangements are entrusted to Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, 4041 Cleveland Ave S. Canton, Ohio 44707. Friends and family may share condolences and memories. See www.sandersfuneralhomes.com.
