Dwayne R. Nicholas Sr.

Dwayne R. Nicholas Sr.,72, of Carrollton, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 6, 2023, at Aultman Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born on Nov. 29, 1950, in Montgomery, West Virginia, to the late Calvin Ray and Geraldine Fitzwater Nicholas.

Dwayne worked as an electrician starting at the age of 16 with Wilfong Electric of Canton. After graduating High School Dwayne was employed at Timken for 31 years as a dedicated steel worker, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment to family. He then continued to work as electrician for Eick Electric of Carrollton after retirement. As a man of many talents, he was also a substitute bus driver for Carrollton Schools for approximately 10 years.

Dwayne was a man of unwavering dedication and service throughout his life. He served his country as a proud U.S. Army veteran and later continued to follow his true calling as a public servant. For an impressive 30 years, he served as a Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, always striving to ensure the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens. He was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the former Carroll County Volunteer Fire Department, risking his life to protect others in times of crisis.

Dwayne also enjoyed being involved in mentoring and guiding the youth of his community. He served as a Scout Leader for the Dellroy Webelos and the Carrollton Boy Scouts, imparting valuable life skills and instilling a strong sense of character in countless young individuals.

His faith was an essential part of his life, and he attended Mt. Pleasant Church, where he found solace and a sense of community.

Dwayne will be remembered within his family as a problem-solver, someone who could always think through any challenge or issue and devise a plan to resolve it. His wisdom and calm demeanor were sources of strength and inspiration for all who knew him.

Dwayne is survived by his beloved wife, Jacque (Cline), and their three devoted sons, Dwayne Jr. (Richelle) Nicholas of Loudonville, Ohio, Scott (Keri) Nicholas of Carrollton, and Matt (Cassandra) Nicholas of Carrollton. He was a cherished grandfather to ten grandchildren, Rylee, Trey, Anorah, Emma, Eva, Summerlee, Rett, Easton, Reed, and Rein. He is also survived by his sister, Bella “Cookie” Stump, and two brothers, Ben Nicholas and Roger (Kim Johnson) Nicholas, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As a man dedicated to family he helped raise more than his own boys by taking in a niece and brother-in-law in their time of need. He also cared deeply for the many foster children that passed through Dwayne Jr and Richelle’s house.

Dwayne leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, dedication, and service to his country and community. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his impact on the lives of so many will continue to inspire future generations.

Funeral services for Dwayne will be Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Rev. Gordon Warner and Rev. Lester Rowan officiating. Burial will follow in New Harrisburg Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
