Hostetler, Hossler named CHS students of the month

Claire Hostetler and Matthew Hossler are Carrollton High School’s January Students of the Month. 

Hostetler is the daughter of Amy Newsome, of Carrollton. She is an only child. She plays golf year round, is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and a member of 4-H. 

She plans to go to Malone University and play golf. Career plans include getting into med school and becoming a pediatric anesthesiologist. 

What teacher, coach, family member or special friend has influenced you and why? “My mom because she stays strong in every situation,” answered Hostetler. 

What advice can you give for success in life? “If you want something, then work for it,” said Hostetler. 

Hossler is the son of Chris and Ann Marie Hossler, of Dellroy. He has one younger brother, Joshua, who is a freshman and is 15 years old. He attends Dellroy Church of the Nazarene and participates in youth group there. 

He is a 4-year member of the marching band, concert band and jazz band. He is a one year member of the Steel band and is a 4-year member of the Academic Hall of Fame. He is a 3-year member of the Spanish Club, 2-year member of the National Honor Society and a one-year member of the CHS Club. 

Hossler is a winner of the VFW Voice of Democracy essay competition and this past summer was selected to attend the American Legion Buckeye Boys’ State at Miami University in Oxford. He is a 3-year member of P7 Bible Study.

His hobbies include collecting unique baseballs, playing his trumpet and listening to music. He also enjoys math and likes to learn new things. 

After high school, Hossler plans to attend Malone University majoring in business/accounting. He plans to continue his music career as a Malone Pioneer by participating in the Malone Pioneer Concert Band and Jazz Band. He plans to go into accounting or another math-related field. 

What teacher, coach, family member or special friend has influenced you and why? “My parents have influenced me the most because they have been very good role models. They have guided me and helped me as I grow in my faith,” said Hossler.

What advice can you give for success in life? “My advice for success in life is to work hard, use your time wisely and establish meaningful friendships that will last a lifetime,” answered Hossler.
