The newly formed Carroll County Parkinson’s Support Group is a local group for anyone with Parkinson’s Disease and their partners. The group meets 10-11 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Cleveland Clinic/Mercy Hospital Carrollton Therapy Center, 1001 Canton Rd. NW, in Carrollton.
There will be an open house on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 10 a.m. with light refreshments and attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the award-winning book “Parkinson’s How to Reduce Symptoms Through Exercise.”
The purpose of the meeting is to provide support and resources, exercise, fun, conversation and social interaction. Meetings will include occasional speakers covering topics such as pharmacy, nutrition, wills/trusts, cognitive decline, maintaining mental wellness, sleep issues and healthy living on a budget among others.
Parkinson’s Disease is one of the leading neurological diseases in the United States today effecting nearly one million people. Early symptoms are usually mild and progress over time. Exercise and social interaction are important to slowing the progression of the disease. Many Parkinson’s patients after being diagnosed often feel lost and isolated. There is now a support group in Carroll County.
