Grunder named Ohio Legion Educator of the Year

Stuart Grunder

Stuart Grunder, history and social studies teacher at Minerva High School, has been selected as the 2023-2024 Department of Ohio American Legion Educator of The Year. 

Grunder was nominated by American Legion Post 357 of Minerva.

The award presentation will be made during the Department Mid-Winter Conference of the Year Awards Banquet Jan. 20 in Columbus.

Grunder has been teaching for 34 years. He graduated from Bowling Green State University and received a master’s degree in education from Kent State University. At Minerva, he has taught American History, Psychology and Sociology and served as the social studies department chair. He is a member of the Minerva Local Education Association and served as president 2004-2006 and 2014-2021. He was the Minerva High School Cross Curricular Chair 1995- 2003.

His name was submitted to the Ohio Department of the American Legion District 10 where he competed against nominees from the 37 posts in Wayne, Stark, Columbiana, Holmes, Coshocton, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Harrison and Jefferson counties. His nomination was selected from candidates representing the other fourteen Districts in Ohio.
