Fifth generation joins family business

An exciting change has taken place at McBane Insurance & Financial Services, Inc.
Alec McBane, the fifth generation of the McBane family, joined the longstanding agency Jan. 8.
He is a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he studied business and was able to take insurance specific classes. Currently, he is studying for his property and casualty license and will work as a producer of both personal and commercial lines insurance.
James McBane founded McBane Insurance nearly 124 years ago in Bergholz, which remains the main branch of the business. James worked to build the business and was eventually joined by his son, Ralph McBane, who was in charge of agency operation from 1935 until his retirement in 1999. Ralph’s son, Jim, joined the agency in 1965 and worked through 2021. Jim’s two sons, Dave and Dan, make up the fourth generation of the agency and joined in 1994 and 2014 respectively.
Dave and Dan said the addition of Alec to the business is special.
“This is special because in a day and age where large corporations are buying businesses like ours, our business is fortunate enough to continue to thrive,” said Daniel.
The agency has undergone many changes over the years but has stayed true to what James saw as its mission: to provide the best insurance coverage for the most affordable price. He built the agency on the foundations of honesty, integrity and relationships with customers. He passed that legacy onto Ralph.
During the 1990s, the agency expanded from one location to three by opening offices in Carrollton and Wintersville.
Alec is the oldest of Dave’s three sons. He looks forward to learning the business and will spend time in all three offices.
The agency has five producers and service staff of 11 and is an independent agent working with more than 20 companies and brokers.
The agency has a proven track record in the Ohio Valley and is driven by values of service and integrity, aiming for satisfied clients.
“Though the industry has changed dramatically over the past 100-plus years, McBane Insurance has made every effort to change as well to provide the best service to our customers,” said the management team. “We have continued to grow and expand.
