This week we celebrate the life of Lois J. Hemming of Carrollton, who died Nov. 20.

She was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Union Township, Muskingum County, a daughter of George W. and Margaret (Stewart) Hardesty.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Hemming in 1970; a son, James S. Hemming; two brothers, Fred and Stewart Hardesty; and nephews John and George Hardesty.

She is survived by a son, Bill Hemming of Carrollton, TX; daughter-in-law, Theresa; grandson Matthew (Traci) Hemming; and three great grandchildren, Ben, Will and Lilly

Lois was a graduate of Muskingum College and taught elementary school in Carrollton for 32 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a teacher and superintendent of Sunday school and as an elder of the church, a member of Carroll County Genealogical and Historical Society and Ohio Teachers Association and Carroll County Retired Teachers.

Through her work in the Genealogical Society, she researched her background and was a member of the First Families of Ohio who settled in the state prior to the 1820s.

Lois was raised on a farm in rural Muskingum County. She was an avid Christian as was her Aunt Etta, a missionary to China, who lived on the farm when in the United States. She lived her life according to the Ten Commandments and was adamant that “Truth” was the key to a successful life, all people are created equal and allow Christ into your heart.

Please join me as celebrate the life of a wonderful lady who lived to be 103 and ¾ of a year old. Her wisdom should never be neglected.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Nov. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Dodds Funeral Home at Carrollton, with the funeral to follow at 1 p.m.
