\u201cSmall town girl with a big dream\u201d describes Olivia Daniels\u2019 wrestling hopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniels competed in the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association (OHSWCA) Girls State Wrestling Championship Feb. 22 and 23 in Hilliard with the goal of earning a state title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Malvern High School senior returned home with the 189 lb. state title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniels earned a bye the first round and then pinned Adria Ingram from Cleveland Center in 30 seconds. She faced Kayley Ross of Alliance and pinned her in 36 seconds. In the semi-finals, Daniels planted Kylie Roberts of Napoleon Girls in 1:54. Olivia pinned Payton Curley of Dover in 1:10 for the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniels went into the tournament seeded #1 in her weight bracket. When asked how she felt when she saw her standings, she said, \u201cAmazing, but I did not let it go to my head because it only takes one wrong move. I wanted it and that\u2019s what I got.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was really nerve-wracking doing the first parade of champions,\u201d Daniels said. \u201cIt was quite a memory. One I\u2019ll never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were 30 teams in the competition. As the only member of the Malvern team, Daniels tied for 22nd place with Cleveland Central Catholic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniels, a senior at Malvern, has been wrestling for seven years. She has been a member of the Malvern team for two years and has been involved with girls wrestling for two years. The tournament was Daniels first time on the mat in after suffering a concussion two weeks ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She will compete in sectional competition Feb. 29 with the Malvern boys team in the sectional tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am ready for sectionals. I want to show them what girls can do,\u201d Daniels said. \u201cI really want to go to state. It\u2019s my senior year. I\u2019m ready to go get them.\u201d
