Ariona Rutledge had a record setting performance Oct. 4 when the Carrollton girls soccer team defeated Harrison Central 7-0 at Community Field.

Rutledge, a sophomore, set a new school record for goals scored in a season with 18.

“Ariona had a hat trick (scored three goals) leaving her with 18 goals on the season,” noted Coach Brandon Irwin following the win. The previous record for 15 goals was set two years ago.

Sophomore Lexi Shockey also had a hat trick for the winners and junior Mekala Dorsey capped off the victory with one goal.

“Johanna Sieger continued to show her vision on the field as she provided three assists in the game.  Danielle Elson was the defensive backbone shutting down almost any attack Harrison Central could put together, and Brianna Ohler at goalie had a clean sheet with four saves, not allowing any goals,” noted Irwin.

Shockey and Kaylee Leggett were credited with one assist apiece.

Harrison Central goalie Katherine Shearer had seven saves.

With the win, the Warriors improved to 7-5-1 on the season, a record Irwin hopes will be heard by East District.

“Carrollton was previously ranked 14th in the district and Harrison Central was 12th. The 7-0 shutout hopefully sends a message to district voters that Carrollton should not be overlooked in the East District,” he said.

Carrollton is 6-1-1 in East District play, outscoring opponents 39-1.
