Runners excel at Dover Invitational

Dover Invitational

Carrollton cross country runners Rick Sibila and Kylie Ujcich notched second place finishes at the Dover Invitational Saturday, both finishing behind runners from the host school.

Luke Jones of Dover won the large school boys race with a time of 17 minutes with Sibila right behind at 17:08. There were 95 runners in the race.

In the large school girls race, Dover’s Sydney Stevenson clocked a time of 20:54 for the win with Ujcich crossing the finish line in 21:07 in the field of 57 runners.

The Carrollton boys team placed fourth with 102 points behind Dover (30), Indian Valley (77) and Licking Valley (86).

Others scoring points for the Warriors included John Childs, 11th (19:29), Carter Ash 24th (20:38), Grant Thompson 29th (21:04) and Turner Eddy 36th (21:33).

On the girls side, the Warriors placed third with 50 points behind the winner, Meadowbrook 30, and Dover 40. 

Other runners earning points for the winners were Ella Barkan 9th (24:27), Zoe Kuhn-Goodspeed 11th (24:28), Gabi McCort 13th (24:50) and Ava Kail 15th (25:01).

MALVERN

Dalton Pennington led the Hornets in the small school boys race with a 16th place finish (19:44) in a field of 77 runners. Rounding out the top five places were Cooper Dorr 23rd (20:37), Noah White 24th (21:53), Ethan Grossi 35th (21:55) and Jacob McClelland 41st (22:38).

Emma Maher ran a 25:01 race to place 12th in the small school girls race. Mya Doughty followed in 25th (28:47), Rayne Theiss 29th ((29:30), Leah Irvine 30th (29:46) and Lexus Backman 32nd (31:39).

“All athletes went into this meet understanding the course and the difficulties it presented! We were very proud of all the athletes, as they all ran their best and worked hard to have personal bests at this particular race,” noted Malvern Coach Jeremy Maher.
