Rockets win sectional title, advance to face Trojans

Conotton Valley’s Kelsey Edie safely returns to third base in the sectional tournament game agaiinst River.

An error by the River Pilots and a triple by Chloe Stuber was the turning point in the opening round of tournament action May 10 at Conotton Valley High School.

The Lady Rockets defeated River 6-3 to advance to in the East District Division IV Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) sectional competition.

Stuber’s hit came in the bottom of the fourth when the Rockets were trailing River 3-2. The triple brought Chloe’s twin sister, Daphne, home and with the Pilots error, Chloe scored, giving the Rockets a 4-3 lead. Ellie Bower hit a double in the sixth and recorded two of the three RBIs she had on the night. 

Chloe Stuber and Bower led the Lady Rockets at the plate with two each. Chloe Stuber had a single and a triple with two RBIs and Bower with a single and a double. Daphne Stuber was perfect at the plate with three walks and a single scoring three of the six runs of the game. Masy Baker, Braxton Neilson and Kelsey Edie each added a hit for the Rockets.  Baker picked up the win for the Rockets throwing 13 strikeouts. 

Round two

The Lady Rockets bats came to life, tallying 11 hits in the 10-0 shut-out May 12 over Shadyside to claim their second straight sectional title. 

Baker and Bower each had two hits with each having a home run. Daphne Stuber, Jordyn Braun, and Edie had two hits each and Neilson added a single. 

Defensively the Rockets only gave up one error and held Shadyside to two hits. Baker added 16 more strikeouts to her 245 total on the season.
