Lonca leads Warriors to win in season opener

CCM/Dan Ries Bryce Lonca sinks a putt in the opening season match against Alliance.

Carrollton kicked off the 2024 varsity boys golf season Aug. 1 at Carroll Meadows with a win.

The Warriors topped Eastern Buckeye Conference foe Alliance 167-203, placed by Bryce Lonca with a 41.

Bryce Taylor and Michael Mullen both carded 41s followed by Everett Brooks with a 45.

The team took to the road for the Pirate Invitational Aug. 5 and Indian Valley Invitational Aug. 7.

Hoover topped a field of 17 teams to win the Pirate Invitational with a 291 led by Dan Gambone, who shot a tournament low of 69 (35 front nine, 34 back nine). Individual runner-up was Brodi Foster of St. Clairsville (who won a front nine scoreboard playoff) with a 70.

St Clairsville was the team runner-up with a score of 305.

The Warriors shot a team score of 351, led by Taylor with an 85 (43, 42). Other scoring included Lonca 43-44 – 87; Brooks 47-42 – 89; Nathan Sutton 44-48 – 92; and Mullen 45-45 – 90.

The team placed second at the Indian Valley Invitational Aug. 7 at River Greens Golf Course.

The host Braves won the team title with a 311, followed by the Warriors with a 322.

Taylor carded a 75 and Brooks a 79 to lead Carrollton.
