Lions snap 33-game losing streak with 16-7 win over St. Thomas Aquinas

The drought is over!
The Minerva Lions snapped a 33-game losing streak that dates back to 2020 with a 16-7 win over St. Thomas Aquinas Friday on their home field.
Senior kicker Zavier Wheeler provided field goals of 22, 42 and 34 yards and added the extra point after quarterback Julian Dunbar scored a three-yard touchdown to account for the Lions’ scoring.
Dunbar ran for 94 yards on 12 carries and completed two of five passes for 46 yards. Jayden Yerger picked up 115 yards on 15 carries and Ethan Weaver 40 yards on seven carries. As a team, the Lions rushed for 311 yards on 41 carries.
The hosts intercepted three St. Thomas passes and broke up several others during the game.
Yerger, Dunbar and Ethan Weaver all had interceptions. Dunbar and Ben Herstine both broke up a pass.
Yerger also received credit for four tackles and two assists, Lane Hawk, four tackles and two assists, Dunbar, two tackles and one assist, Sean Scott, four tackles and one assist and Herstine, one sack.
With the loss, St. Thomas’ losing streak extended to 31 games.
