Late Mallarnee shot ties game, Warriors win in OT

Lincoln Mallarnee hit a game-tying 3-pointer off a baseline out-of-bounds play with 20 seconds left in regulation to force overtime with the Salem Quakers last week.
Carrollton took the lead in overtime on another Mallernee 3-pointer and the Warriors pulled away on four straight Jaxon Rinkes free throws for a 55-48 Eastern Buckeye Conference road win.
Mallarnee, a junior, ended the game with 24 points. Eighteen of his points came from 3-point range and two from the foul line. Brock Smith contributed 12 points, Rinkes six and Micah Barkan 4.
The Warriors shot 33% from the field, but were aided by 17 offensive rebounds. The visitors held a 40-24 edge on the boards, led by Rinkes with 10 rebounds. Carrollton players shot 20 free throws, sinking 11, while Salem made good on all three of their charity tosses.
Salem led 11-8 after the first period before Carrollton rallied for a 24-23 lead at halftime. The hosts won the third period 9-3 and held a 32-27 lead going into the fourth period. Mallarnee’s game-tying basket knotted the score at 46-46 at the end of regulation.
With the win, Carrollton improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in EBC action.
