A veteran teacher and coach is set to begin his duties as Carrollton’s next athletic director.

The board of education approved the hiring of Eric McCort at the June 29 meeting to replace Caleb Crowl, who resigned earlier in the month.

McCort completed his 22nd year of coaching in May. He taught physical education and weight training and most recently algebra and 8th grade math.

He has been a coach in the district for the same period of time, including coaching at several levels within the football program.

He was Carrollton’s head football coach from 2012-2016, He also spent time as a defensive coordinator, varsity assistant, head freshman coach and most recently as a junior high football coach. He also coached junior high and varsity wrestling coach and a varsity assistant track coach.

“I want to start off by saying how excited I am to be in the position of athletic director,” McCort said. “I know that I have a lot of big shoes to fill with the men that have gone before me. My whole goal and ambition in this position is to truly support all the great coaches we currently have within our district. I believe that if our coaches have the support they need, we can continue to thrive within our Eastern Buckeye Conference and within the state of Ohio. I hope people in our community know how truly blessed we are to be led by so many great men and women who give of their time and talents for very little in return. Our coaches truly do it because they love our students and our community!”

The Carrollton High School alumnus feel privileged to have coached Carrollton athletes.

“Throughout my time in coaching, there has been no greater privilege than to serve all the athletes that have come through our district. I have been blessed to work with so many young, talented athletes whom I got to watch grow into leaders within our district and community,” McCort noted.

“We are extremely excited for Eric to lead our athletic department.  I know he will be a great advocate for our student athletes and that he will work tirelessly for them and our coaches.  As a lifelong Warrior, he is the right person for this job,” commented Carrollton Superintendent Dave Davis.

McCort said it is the support of his wife, Sarah, that allowed him to apply for the position.

“I honestly feel like I have the most supportive wife a coach and now athletic director could ever ask for,” he said. “I would not be in this position if it wasn’t for her constant support and understanding of the time demands that goes into investing into other people’s lives. I am so grateful God has given her to me!”

He and Sarah are the parents of four children, twin daughters Olivia and Gabriella (15), son Chance (13) and daughter Lylah (12).

He was hired on a two-year contract and begins his duties Aug. 1.
