Brunner smacks home run in Lions’ win

Minerva starting pitcher Bella Murray threw five innings of scoreless ball as the Lions picked up a 10-3 non-league win over Lisbon April 29.

Murray gave up four hits, walked two struck and out two batters during her work in the circle.  Sierra Cress pitched the final inning.

The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, added a run in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in the sixth. All three of Lisbon’s runs came in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Lydia Brunner sparked the Lion offense, going three-for-four at the plate with a single, double and a home run. She collected two RBIs and stole two bases.

Alyssa Risden added a single, double and two RBIs. Murray and Emma Hilliard both hit doubles.

Marlington

Minerva traveled to Alliance May 5 to take on the Marlington Lady Dukes, suffering a 13-9 loss and fell to 5-5 in Eastern Buckeye Conference (EBC) play.

The Lions took the early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding two in the second to take a 6-1 lead into the third inning. Two scoreless innings by the Lions and seven runs of the Dukes over the next two innings gave the hosts an 8-6 lead. After both teams scored one run in the fifth, Minerva tied the game 9-9 on a home run by Alaina Jackson in the top of the sixth, Marlington plated four runs in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.

Murray led the Minerva offensive effort with a double and single as Tori Klingensmith and Hilliard both added a double.

Tournament

The Lions host Carrollton in the first round of the combined sectional/district game May 11 at 5 p.m.

The Lions are the #9 seed and Carrollton #17.
