Viola May Lee, 96, formerly of New Rumley, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Carroll County Golden Age Retreat.
Born May 26, 1928, in Jefferson County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late George Otto Strohmeyer and Margaret Hilder Strohmeyer. A 1948 graduate from Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing, Viola worked as a registered nurse for a few area nursing homes. She worked at Caroll Healthcare Center in Carrollton for 19 years and was the head of nursing prior to retiring.
Viola was active all her life, she enjoyed being outdoors tending to her beautiful flower beds and mowing her immaculate lawn. She loved all the pet cats and dogs she had over the years. Always a conscientious eater, she occasionally indulged in her “orange pop”.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband Opie Lee on October 5, 1980. Also preceding her in death are brothers Floyd, Edward, Ernie, Lew and Ken Strohmeyer and sisters Dorothy Sinfield and Phyllis Dundee.
Surviving are brothers Dan Strohmeyer of Albrightsville, PA and Ben (Donna) Strohmeyer of Carrollton as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carroll Golden Age Retreat and Traditions Hospice for the kind, loving and compassionate care they gave Viola, especially during their final days.
