Melanie A. Wartluft, 53, of Mechanicstown, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022.

She was born Jan. 15, 1969, in Salem to Ray and Nancy Ketchum and graduated from Carrollton High School. She enjoyed making crafts by knitting, crocheting and making quilts. Her passion was her family and doing activities with them. Melanie will be remembered as a person who never met a stranger.

She married Gary Wayne Wartluft Jr. June 23, 1990. He passed away Jan. 28, 2022.

Survivors include her children, Ethan (Kristin) Wartluft of Mechanicstown, Emily (Jonathan) Smith of Ft. Campbell, KY, and Elijah Wartluft of Mechanicstown; three grandchildren, Clayton, Josie and Carter; siblings Judy (Ray) Brewer of Mechanicstown, Dennis (Kathy) Ketchum of Mechanicstown and Kevin Ketchum; mother Nancy L. Ketchum of Mechanicstown; and fiancé Joseph Barber. She was preceded in death by her husband and her father.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 6 – 8 p.m. in Maple Cotton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Harold Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicstown Cemetery.
