John Robert Howlett, 89, of Minerva, passed away at Minerva Healthcare & Rehabilitation Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021. 

Born June 27, 1932, in Minerva, he was a son to John D. and Dorothy G. (Jewell) Howlett.

John served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member and chaplain of American Legion Post 357. He enjoyed working with youth and was involved in Boy Scouts, 4-H and FFA. He was a former member of the Gideons and Augusta Ruritans. He was a trustee at Mount Zion United Methodist Church for 33 years and a member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge.

John is survived by his daughter, Beth (Brian) Williams of Magnolia; a son, John of Minerva; four grandchildren, Brianna (Andrew) Patterson of East Sparta, Richard Williams of Minot, ND, Robert (Sarah) Williams of Dellroy and Cody Williams of Dellroy; and a sister, Twila German of Vermillion.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Elizabeth Howlett who passed away Dec. 27, 2020; and a son, James R Howlett.

Funeral services will be held at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 2004 Bellflower Rd., Minerva, Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Carpenter of Mount Zion United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 10 – 11 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church.
