Jack L. Coffy, 88, of Carrollton, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Sept. 23, 2024, at the Carroll Healthcare Center.
Born on April 1, 1936, in Carrollton, he was a son of the late Harold and Golda May Coffy.
Jack dedicated over 30 years of his life to A&P Tea Co. before pursuing his dream of owning a grocery store, Coffys Market, in Cadiz. His work ethic and commitment to the community were admired by all who knew him.
An avid sports enthusiast, Jack’s passions included bowling, golfing, fishing, and hunting, but his heart belonged to baseball. He relished playing the game, umpiring local teams, and cheering on his beloved Boston Red Sox. When baseball season ended, he turned his attention to the Chicago Bears, eagerly following their games.
Beyond sports, Jack had a love for travel. He explored many corners of the world, yet nothing brought him more joy than taking his entire family on vacation to the beach, where he created lasting memories.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Barbara Gatz; four children, Gayla (Mark) Devitt, Doug (Tammy) Coffy, Sharla (Curt) Richards, and Alicia Coffy; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his lifelong friend, Frank McCully.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl and Ernie, as well as two sisters, Louise and Jeanne.
Jack L. Coffy will be remembered for his kindness, passion for life, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of joy and togetherness that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Funeral services for Jack will be held on Friday, September 27, at 11 a.m. at the Carrollton 1st Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Timothy Dyck officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Carrollton. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church.
