Gene Edward Dunlap, 82, of Carrollton, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness.
Gene was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Harlem Springs. He graduated from Scio High School in 1960.
Gene was a well-known drag racer, often referred to as “Mudflap,” and did so professionally until 1976. He was self-employed owning a salvage yard/auto repair shop and selling used cars until retiring in 2012. He even got back into drag racing as a hobby with family in the early 2000’s with a Vega named “Family Addiction.” He loved being a grandfather foremost and never missed a sporting and/or any of their events. He instilled his hard work ethic and competitiveness into his family. He was a good friend to many and will be greatly missed.
His family includes his loving wife of 60 years, Donna; two children, Sherry (Fred) Noble and Gene (Jackie) Dunlap II; three grandchildren, Amanda (Chad) Mace, Jonathan (Ciara) Dunlap and Madison (Cooper) Pastorius; six great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Riverlynn and Paxton Dunlap, Reagan, Reese, and Maddox Mace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Dunlap and Kathleen Arbogast; in-laws, Rollin and Ethel Wright, and sister, Marcella Myers.
A Celebration of Life for Gene will be held Nov. 26, at 5 p.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of celebration in the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in Gene’s name to Harrison County Pulling for a Cure Inc., PO Box 79, Cadiz, OH 43907.
