David Lee Maple, 81, of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at River Oaks in Dayton, Ohio. 

He was born June 13, 1941, in Canton, Ohio the son of the late Denton and Elizabeth (Billingsly) Maple. 

Dave retired as a Sergeant with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He dearly loved being a Patrolman. He followed his father into the Patrol, and has had a brother-in-law, son-in-law, and uncle all within the State Highway Patrol. Dave attended the Cuba Friends Meeting, had a passion for his 1938 Hot Rod, enjoyed motorcycles and bowling. Wood working was a true hobby and something he excelled in.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sue (Haddix) Coffee Maple; children, David Maple of Clarksville, Melissa (Marty) Fellure of London, Heather (Shane) Gammell of Cuba, and Ryan (Rachel) Coffee of Anderson; grandchildren, Kennedy and Noah Fellure, Daelin Maple, Sarah (Liam) Coffee, and Isabella and Olivia Gammell; sister Jo Estes of Bixby, OK; cousins Gail DeWalt, Dee Perry, Mary Kathryn Mull and many more nieces and nephews; and many friends. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home. Ohio State Highway Patrol services will begin at 1 p.m., following Patrol Services, Doug Haag will officiate funeral services. Burial with Military Honors accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 20, from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
