Alice Rutledge Poplin, 66, of Carrollton, passed away Sunday afternoon Aug. 14, 2022, at Aultman Hospital in Canton following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1955, in Canton, she was a daughter of the late R. Herb and Pat Eick Rutledge.
Alice was a 1974 graduate of Carrollton High School. After graduation she went on to earn her degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from The Ohio State University in 1978, then in 2008 she obtained a master’s degree in Education from Kent State University. Over her 35-year career, she taught at both Conotton Valley High School and Carrollton High School, finishing her career where she started, as a Warrior. After retiring Alice continued to help at the school as a substitute and study hall monitor.
Going back to her days in high school, Alice was a constant at Carrollton High School wrestling matches. Rarely missing a match, she served the program in almost every capacity, from statistician to announcer.
Whether you knew her as Alice or Mrs. Poplin, you were fortunate enough to know a lady who would be your biggest cheerleader, a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on and a motivator. Her family and friends will miss her ability to brighten up their day with her smile, a big hug and a light kiss on the cheek.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Lynn; three brothers, Bill, Phill and Tom; two sisters, Amy and Anne; her sister-in-law, Debbie Brown and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Alice’s wishes, there will be no formal services at this time and a celebration of life will be held at a future date.
The family wishes donations be made in her name to the Carrollton Wrestling Boosters, 277 Steubenville Rd. SE, Carrollton, OH 44615.
Dodds Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
