Wintersville woman faces indictment for attacking jail personnel

A Wintersville woman was indicted on several charges stemming from an Oct. 21 assault in Carrollton and for assaulting law enforcement officers in the county jail Oct. 29. 

AMBER LEE LAMANNA, 47, was indicted on Aggravated Burglary, Harassment by Inmate, a fifth-degree felony, Assault, a fifth-degree felony, Assault, a fourth-degree felony and one count of Assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. 

Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney Steven D. Barnett said Lamanna is accused of breaking into a 5th St. NW, Carrollton, residence Oct. 21 and assaulting another female. While incarcerated in the Carroll County Jail on those charges, and in a separate incident Oct. 29, Lamanna became combative and non-compliant with deputies and corrections officers, spitting on a corrections officer, striking corrections officers and kicking a deputy sheriff in the jaw, all who were attempting to subdue her.

Lamanna was one of six persons indicted during a half-day session of the grand jury Nov. 7.

Others indicted include:

MATTHEW T. GRAY, 40, of Wellsburg, WV, Possession of Cocaine. On Oct. 20, deputies found Gray asleep in his vehicle with it running at the intersection of Aurora and Morning roads in Fox Township. Deputies found cocaine on his person after waking him.

ERIC F. HAWKINS, 40, of 1090 Bedrock Rd. NW, Dellroy, Domestic Violence. Barnett said it is alleged that, on Oct. 1, Hawkins physically assaulted his mother during an a dispute at their residence. Hawkins was previously convicted of domestic violence in Carroll County in 2021.

JOHN M. DAZEY, 35, of 4170 Picador Rd., Carrollton, Aggravated Possession of Drugs.

Dazey was found in possession of 177 oxycodone pills after sheriff deputies stopped his vehicle near Harlem Springs Oct. 1 to arrest him on an outstanding warrant from Stark County.

DUSTIN D. HUTCHISON, 44, of Bergholz, Aggravated Possession of Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia Offenses. 

Approximately one-third of a gram of methamphetamine and a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine was found in Hutchinson’s vehicle following a traffic stop in the village of Carrollton Aug. 21. Hutchinson also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Columbiana County at the time.

JAMES LEE RUSSELL, 42, of 3243 Roswell Rd, SW, Carrollton, Aggravated Possession of Drugs. Paramedics found a baggy of methamphetamine that fell from Russell’s pocket while being treated after crashing his motorcycle in Harrison Township May 9.

Arraignments are scheduled Nov. 21 at 8:30 a.m. before Common Pleas Judge Michael V. Repella, II.
