Top Dukes at Carroll Meadows, finish fourth in Marlington Invitational

Two out of three events on the Carrollton boys golf team schedule were tournaments last week.

The Warriors traveled to Alliance to participate in the Marlington Invitational (2020 Tannenhauf High School Boys Invitation) Aug. 7 where they placed fourth in the 12-team Division II and III competition.

Canton won the division with a 15-over-par 303 team score, followed by Gilmore Academy 313; Mogadore 328; and Carrollton 335.

Jaxon Rinkes fired a 10-over-par 82 to tie for 18th place. Colton Moore and John Birong tied for 20th with an 84, followed by Cayden Rininger in 24th with an 85.  Coby Weiland tied for 41st with a 94.

The Warriors traveled to the site of last year’s Division II state tournament, NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury Aug. 11. The team competed with some of the top Division II teams in the state during the tournament.

“It was good experience for the boys,” stated Coach Chris Barto.

In Eastern Buckeye Conference action Aug. 13, the Warriors picked up a 150-173 over Marlington at Carroll Meadows.

Rinkes paced the Warriors with a 33, followed by Birong 36; Rininger 40; and Moore 41.

Charlie Mort 39 led the Dukes with a 39, followed by Blake Howard and Alec Goodwin, both, 44 and Conner Battershell 46.

After hosting Minerva Aug.17, the Warriors travel to Alliance for a match with the Dukes Aug. 20. They will travel to Canton South Aug. 24 to take on the Wildcats.
