Carroll County experienced its third death from the coronavirus (COVID-19) May 27.
Amy Campbell, Health Dept. office administrator, said the victim was an 89-year-old Brown Twp. resident.
An 87-year-old Carrollton woman was the first reported death and an Augusta Township man was the second death.
As of the May 28, the county had a total of 31 cases – 25 confirmed and six probable cases. A one-month old baby is the youngest case in the county. Twenty-two people have recovered. Seven are hospitalized.
One hundred nine employees and staff at a long-term care facility in the county were tested for COVID-19. One employee and one staff member tested positive. Both were A-symptomatic. The department is monitoring 102 contacts exposed to the case.
The Ohio National Guard is conducting congregate home testing across the state and will notify county health departments when they test in each county. Campbell said counties with large numbers of facilities are being tested first, leaving Carroll County until later.
“We are working with LabCorp to increase testing in the county,” she noted, which has been discussed for the past several weeks. “We plan to do it through the health department using drive-thru clinics. We hope to get it underway within the next week or so.”
